TFT: Camping for an Entire Summer???

We really didn't expect to sell our house this fast but we definitely aren't complaining either.  Now, the search is on for a place to live for the next few months until our new house is completed.  My husband says that we are going to park our RV up in the Mountain and live like Mountain Men for the next few months.

As I put some thought into this WACKY idea I made a list of the PROS and CONS.

PROS & CONS

  • No Rent or House payments for at least 3 months - We would save so much money!
  • No Utilities - Except gas for the generator
  • No Yardwork - Except for cleaning up the campfire and scooping up bear & mountain lion poop from our campground
  • If we don't like the scenery, our house is on wheels.  We can just pack up and move
  • We can have loud obnoxious parties and no neighbors will complain
  • We can tell Ghost Stories all night - We will have to because there is no TV or TIVO in the woods
  • YUMMY Dutch Oven Cooking for 3 Months - I am going to get sooooo FAT!
  • We will have plenty of room on the mountain for many guests - As long as they don't mind peeing in the woods, pitching a tent and watching out for bears
  • I could learn how to hunt - Or at least protect myself from the Wild animals
  • I will have MANY stories to tell - But no computer to share them with you
  • We could make smores by the campfire every single night - But, I will never be able to get the campfire smell out of my hair after 3 months of it
  • We could have an Awesome game of Hide & Seek - As long as I don't get lost
  • We could pretend that we are cavemen, carry around clubs and dance around the fire
  • We could sing Campfire Songs - My way of scaring the wild animals away (if you have heard my singing voice you will understand)

I am sure that there are endless PROS & CONS to this situation and having no children would make it much easier and more realistic.  I really don't know what we are going to do for sure.  We have had many friends who have welcomed us to stay at their house although I hate to impose and for 3 months (or more) I think is too long for someone to have a houseguest.  And, my family lives too far away to shack up in their house.  We also have the option of getting an apartment but then we run into the problem of finding one that is Nice and will still do month to month.  I would hate to get stuck in a lease and have to pay for an apartment and a house.  Also, we would be having to move 3 times.  NO FUN at all!

So, going camping in the RV all summer sounds much more reasonable and I have to say...  WAY MORE FUN!  I have looked into a few RV Resorts around here that are right here in the city.  This sounds much better than being stuck on the mountain for 3 months.

THIS IS WHAT THEY PROVIDE:

  • A Concrete Pad for your RV, Parking and then a small yard with a picnic table
  • Full hook-ups (electricity, water, cable TV and internet)  I would be able to Blog!  YAY!
  • Swimming Pools, Hot Tubs, playgrounds, water park, batting cages, laundry, a store, large bathrooms with hot showers in case we get sick of showering in our RV and so much more...  I would be so tan from laying out every day and my nieces and nephews would have so much fun visiting us!
  • HUGE PLUS!  There are no Bears, Mountain Lions, Snakes and other wild animals that scare me!

I think that I may just win the COOLEST wife award for allowing us to camp all summer too!  I am leaning more towards the RV Resort but think that eventually the FUN would ware off and I would begin to HATE it.  Although,  how many people get to camp for an entire summer of their life.  What an Experience to say the least!

What to Do...  What to Do... Help!

  • What do you think about this idea?
  • Do you tink that I am Crazy?
  • Do you think that you would be able to go camping for an entire summer?

Well, since I love to camp I think the idea of it is pretty cool! Really, a once in a lifetime opportunity because someday soon you guys WILL have little ones and while you can still camp with kids... camping with kids for an entire summer would be a pain rather than fun.

Anyhow... I think it'd be fun to attempt to do. If you guys got sick of it you could always make alternate plans for living arrangements for the rest of the summer. You should go for it... its a once in a lifetime opportunity and it could be a lot of fun!

I think you should go for it. The second one, in the city sounded a lot better to me :) I'm sure by the end of the summer you'll be ready to burn the camper but since it's only temporary I'm sure you'll get through it fine :) The coolest wife award sounds enticing enough for me :)

i think the RV sounds better... that would be fun! nicole has a point, it's just the two of you to worry about and what an experience :)

i think it would be awesome!

there are a lot of people where i live that go down south and live in rv parks for the entire winter! my hubby's grandparents live in wisconsin, then they go to texas all winter. so it can be done and it could be fun! :)

some rv resorts (like the one you mentioned) make it very comfortable to 'live in the woods'. i would say go for it and then you'll have this experience forever! how cool!

Go for it...it'll be an adventure!! Start at the RV Resort and maybe take a few weekend trips here and there in between.
3 months shouldn't be too bad, right??

If you have an RV, I'd go for it! You would definitely feel like you got your money out of the thing :) Plus, you're right about the apartment situation, not only do you have to figure out the lease situation, but you'd probably have to take some furniture with you, then put some in storage, what a hassle! With the RV you could just throw all your stuff in storage and feel like your on vacation! I wouldn't doubt that after a month or so you'd get super tired of the whole situation... but that would just be more motivation to you to stay on the builders back and get your house done as quick as humanly possible! Then you'll be SUPER grateful for the beautiful home you'll move into. Not to mention all the money you'd save during that time, maybe at that point you'd decide to just get all new furniture for the house :) Anyway, I think it would totally work and camping is always better in the summer than winter :)

I think it sounds amazing! What a fun experience....You'll have to travel around and find wi-fi and update us! :)

I'd do it in a RV definitely! I'd go with the resort thing. Just know they can get a little loud, but if you have an RV you obviously know that.

Sounds like a really fun adventure...although my FH and I would probably go nuts in small quarters after week 2.

I think this sounds cool, especially for the fact that you would be in an R.V. If you were pitching a tent, that would be an entirely different story! Best of luck.
